The D. E. Shaw Group is seeking talented Ph.D. candidates to join the firm as software development interns. The role involves building analytical and trading tools, designing and deploying real-time scalable applications for automated trading activities, and engaging with academic and professional colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Build tools for analyzing and trading financial instruments
  • Design and deploy real-time, scalable applications for the firm’s highly automated trading activities
  • Have the chance to attend our academic speaker series and track academic progress in various areas that may be of interest

Qualifications

  • An impressive record of academic achievement, including advanced coursework in fields such as math, statistics, physics, engineering, computer science, or other technical and quantitative programs
  • Keen attention to detail with notable research productivity and a track record of creativity in respective areas of study
  • Exceptional problem-solving capabilities and programming skills (which may include experience programming in languages such as Python, Java, or C/C++), and an interest in producing clean and efficient code
  • An interest in learning about quantitative finance; no previous finance experience is necessary
  • Students who apply to this internship are usually approaching their final year of full-time study
