Description

Software Engineering Internship (Summer 2027)

Location: Atlanta, Georgia (Buckhead)

Duration: May 17th–July 30th

Department: Engineering / Product Development

About Us

Hive Financial Systems is an Atlanta-based fintech that builds and operates the technology behind responsible consumer lending for underserved borrowers. Our platform runs the full loan lifecycle (application, underwriting, servicing, payments, and collections) across multiple lending portfolios, and we are rebuilding it as a modern, cloud-native platform designed to scale.

Role Overview

We’re seeking a Software Engineering Intern to help build and modernize the platform behind our lending products: the services, APIs, data, and applications that borrowers and our internal teams rely on every day. You’ll join a product team working on our platform rebuild and ship real code alongside engineers, product managers, QA, and data specialists, with a mentor guiding you throughout the summer.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain features across our platform, primarily in C#/.NET services and APIs.
  • Write tests alongside your code. Our teams work test-first, so you’ll learn to write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests as part of every feature.
  • Help modernize legacy code into our new cloud-native platform, using AI-assisted tools to refactor and re-platform existing systems.
  • Work in short development cycles with code reviews, automated build pipelines, and feature flags.
  • Use AI tools responsibly in your daily work, and verify what they produce.
  • Collaborate with product, QA, data, and compliance partners. In lending, accuracy, security, and auditability are requirements, not extras.
  • Document what you build and share technical learnings with the team.

What You’ll Gain

  • Production experience on a platform used by real consumers and internal teams.
  • Hands-on work with a modern stack: C#/.NET, SQL, REST/GraphQL APIs, containers, and Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with test-driven development, CI/CD, and cloud deployment.
  • An understanding of how engineering works in a regulated industry, including security, data privacy, and audit requirements.
  • An inside look at how fintech works end to end, from loan application to final payment.
  • A portfolio-ready project that demonstrates your contributions.

Qualifications

  • Current student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (rising Junior or Senior).
  • Programming experience in at least one object-oriented language; C# is preferred since our services are built on .NET.
  • Familiarity with SQL and relational databases.
  • Basic understanding of APIs and how services communicate with each other.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools such as Claude, Cursor, Hex, and ChatGPT in coursework or projects, along with the judgment to review, test, and verify what AI produces.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, curiosity, and eagerness to learn.

Preferred Skills

  • Exposure to Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript.
  • Experience writing automated tests (for example, xUnit, NUnit, or pytest).
  • Familiarity with Git, cloud platforms (Azure preferred), or containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience with Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, or Hex, which our team uses day to day, or with other agentic coding and AI-assisted analytics tools.
  • Familiarity with prompting, giving AI tools project context, or building small apps on top of an AI model’s API.

Interview Process

Our interview process includes multiple stages, starting with an initial screening. Candidates who advance will complete a technical assessment (TestGorilla) focused on coding and problem-solving. This helps ensure fairness and gives us a clear view of your technical capabilities.

Completing the TestGorilla assessment is required. Candidates who do not complete it will not move forward in the process.
